Our passion for golf led us on a journey to discover the origins of this beloved sport, ultimately leading us to King James IV of Scotland. This legendary King, often referred to as “the royal golfer,” played a significant role in the history of golf. During his reign, golf faced an interesting turn of events. His predecessor, King James II, had actually banned the sport, as men prioritised it over their duties to the King.

 

King James IV reinstated the sport during his reign in the early 16th Century. This renewed royal interest and participation in golf contributed to the game’s survival and growth in popularity over the following centuries.

 

It’s a story that resonates even today, as we all sometimes crave a break from work to play a cheeky round of golf or a quick 9 holes.
